Rebels Going Bowling

When Houston Nutt came to Oxford this season he had one thing on his mind, that one thing was to get Ole Miss back to a bowl game for the first time since the Eli era. Coach Nutt has accomplished just that in a 59-0 victory over Louisiana-Monroe Saturday.

Now, the Rebels are playing for a better bowl and have their two biggest rivalry games to improve their position. The Rebels have not defeated the Bayou Bengals since Eli's sophmore season. The Rebels can take the next step with a win at Tiger Stadium at 2:30 on national televison (CBS).

While it has been a while since the Rebels have defeated LSU, Houston Nutt on the other hand defeated #1 LSU last year in triple overtime with Arkansas 50-48. Obviously, if the Rebels take care of the football they will have a realistic chance in beating LSU. The Rebels are 6-0 when they keep their turnovers to a minimum. Dexter McCluster and Jevan Snead are playing much better in the Rebels three game win streak.

The Bayou Bengals had to rally to come back and beat Troy Saturday with a huge fourth quarter rally 40-31. Troy blew a 31-3 lead with just under 4 minutes to play in the third quarter. Ole Miss is not Troy and LSU will definately be ready for the Rebels when they come into Tiger Stadium on Saturday. Whether LSU overlooked Troy, or was just physically and mentally drained from playing Alabama the previous week, they better not overlook Ole Miss because the Rebels are playing with confidence. Houston Nutt will be ready to beat Les Miles for the second straight season, this time with the Rebels.
